Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds – one of the largest venues in the country – has been put into liquidation.
Former fairground board chair Kim Campbell said the development followed ongoing disagreements with the owner, the Cornwall Park Trust.
He said a rent dispute had exacerbated the pressures caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The exhibition center has hosted events for over 160 years.
An event scheduled to take place this weekend, a vintage car sale, has been postponed.
The venue was also scheduled to host the Auckland Food Show, Home Show and Baby Show in the coming weeks, as well as several concerts in its auditorium, called the Logan Campbell Center.
The Parc des Expositions will be closed to the public tomorrow.
In March, The Herald reported on the site’s uncertain future as the site struggled to see how it could remain solvent in the face of major event cancellations due to Covid-19.
The only profit from the 8 hectares of Cornwall Park Exhibition Center comes from shows, events and concerts.
By March 2021, the venue had lost four major events, including the Home Show and the Royal Easter Show.
In 2020, 14 major events were canceled due to the pandemic, along with 11 small shows and concerts.
