Freddie Mac’s Pam Perry: Addressing Racial Equity in Housing

0

It was a sunny and extremely humid Thursday morning. Of course, that’s almost the norm for Dallas, and that wasn’t going to stop these three women from showing up for the magazine cover shoot with an energy and excitement that couldn’t be stopped. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I would say this cover is worth a lot more than that. These three women of influence not only carry the grace and lessons of those who came before them, but they leave an invaluable legacy for the next generation of leaders. Rebecca McDonald, Product Manager at Rocket mortgage, Pam Perry, Vice President for Single Family Fair Housing at Freddie mac, and Hilary Saunders, Co-Founder and Head of Brokers at Side, are all featured on the cover and were named one of HousingWire’s 2021 Women of Influence. I had the honor of sitting down with them to learn more about the projects they are passionate about, how they make a difference and what advice they would share with industry players.

Here is the interview with Pam Perry, Single-family vice-president of fair housing at Freddie mac.

Brena Nath: First off, congratulations on being named the 2021 Woman of Influence. If you were standing on a stage giving an acceptance speech, who would you like to thank for helping you get to where you are? are today?

Pam Perry: It would be my mother. She really is my heroine in terms of resilience. For me personally, I think this is one of the traits and characteristics that I think defines most people’s careers because things rarely take a linear path. I really feel like I can pivot, I can make lemonade out of lemons, I can keep moving forward in a determined way, do a job that is close to my heart and try to reach a really high level with no particular goal in sight, other than continuing to do good and meaningful work, to me my mom is that role model. From her life as a tenant farmer’s daughter to a mother of four graduate children, including five Harvard degrees among her children, she is one of the smartest people I know, and life hasn’t been easy for her.
