We are ready to take this game to the next level and need a passionate Technical Accounting Manager who will provide advice and technical accounting expertise to carry out the daily operations of the external reporting team and ensure compliance with the changes in regulatory requirements, current accounting standards and internal controls.
YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME
Reporting to the Technical Accounting & External Reporting Director, you will be required to:
- Prepare accounting discussion papers to document current accounting issues, assess impact on OLG, and propose recommendations for senior management to review and implement
- Lead role in conducting accounting assessments of any potential new contracts/partnerships with external parties, outlining implications and providing recommendations in the best interest of OLG
- Provide support to the Senior Director of External Reporting to proactively assess changes to various accounting standards, including providing an assessment of current contractual obligations
- Support or lead the review and updates of accounting policies.
- Lead or participate in the preparation of all external reporting requirements including annual consolidated financial statements, economic benefits reports and annual report ensuring compliance with applicable accounting principles and in conjunction with the timelines set out in the Department of Finance memorandum of understanding.
- Liaise with Financial Planning and Analysis and other departments/teams to coordinate the collection of financial information and validation of results
- Participate in the preparation of OLG’s monthly close process, consolidation process and preparation of financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards, including related note disclosures
- Provide support for the annual audit by preparing and reviewing working papers, statement of financial statement ratings and providing auditors with all required and requested information on time; Respond to requests from external auditors as needed, escalating any issues
- Assist the Senior External Reporting Manager to prepare/present accounting guidance for the IFRS sharing forum with National Lottery jurisdictions to provide advice on OLG accounting issues and share best practices
- Assist the Senior External Reporting Manager to assess current financial reporting needs, articulate anticipated reporting needs and develop recommendations to drive continuous improvement within the external reporting function
- Assist in the preparation of internal stakeholder reports, and other financial reporting background materials and presentations for senior management to assist in decision making
- Lead the preparation of ad hoc financial requests, FOIs and press releases as required
- Collaborate with appropriate business areas and senior management to enable the timely provision of required financial information and respond to questions relating to financial statements, notes and annual reports
- Proactively identify areas of improvement within the team and develop actionable recommendations for procedural and/or system changes needed to strengthen the external reporting function and control framework
WHAT YOU NEED TO PLAY
Professional experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, preparation of financial statements and working papers
Education: University degree in finance or accounting; professional accounting designation, CPA
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of IFRS is a strong asset; understanding of OLG’s business model and the lottery and gaming industry is an asset
Critical Skills: Superior presentation skills; adept at preparing presentations that clearly deliver technical concepts to non-technical audiences; strong analytical thinking skills; research ability, meticulous attention to detail; strong relationship management skills; excellent communication skills; exceptional planning and organizational skills
