Senior Accounting Manager

We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accounting Manager to perform and coordinate accounting tasks within our organization to increase service accuracy and efficiency. The Senior Accounting Manager will lead a small team and must be able to be a dynamic team player and a visionary leader. This role will include all duties associated with a Senior Accountant (financial tracking, reporting and analysis, tax and audit preparations, general ledger maintenance, etc.) as well as the ability to train and motivate accounting staff, develop and implement service controls and procedures and ensure that the service operates efficiently without sacrificing accuracy.

To be successful, you must have a strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), strong financial analysis skills, advanced Excel skills, and excellent leadership qualities. In addition, being detail-oriented, highly organized, able to work with little to no supervision and as part of a team, with an understanding of management principles and financial legislation will lead to success in this position.

The Senior Director of Accounting reports directly to the founder of Upslope Brewing Company, liaises with our financial stakeholders and works in tandem with the Director of Human Operations. This position is primarily in-person with the option of occasional remote flexibility of 2 days per week.

Job Responsibilities/Tasks

  • Evaluate, develop and improve departmental controls, systems and procedures that increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee the daily activities of the accounting department and ensure that all major projects, month-end and year-end reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure that all accounting processes comply with GAAP and applicable financial legislation.
  • Analyze financial data and create reports for management, stakeholders and external parties, such as suppliers or lenders.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records and participate in audits or reconciliations as required.
  • Assist other departments in developing strategies, setting goals/budgets and making decisions that may have a financial impact on the business.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in the finance and brewing industries.
  • Coordinate accounting functions and programs.
  • Preparation of financial analyzes and reports.
  • Preparation of income forecasts and expenditure forecasts.
  • Directs the preparation and monitoring of all budgets.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
  • Assistance in the preparation of annual audits.
  • Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies and non-compliance issues.
  • Preparation of federal, state, local and special tax returns.
  • Train and motivate accounting staff members while supervising and delegating relevant accounting tasks to department heads.
  • Perform other accounting duties and support Upslope staff as needed or assigned.

Working time/Availability

Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the non-negotiable ability to work in person at the Upslope office 3 or more days per week, including Monday and Friday.

Job Qualifications/Requirements and Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Excellent collaborative leadership and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent understanding of accounting, financial and management principles.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP
  • Exceptional math skills and proficiency in Excel.
  • Computer proficiency, especially accounting software and MS Office and G-Suite.
  • High level of efficiency, accuracy and integrity.
  • Willingness to comply with all local, state, federal and corporate regulations.
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze large amounts of data.

Desired/preferred, but not required:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing self and others.
  • Graduate degree or related certification, CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong time and stress management skills.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and as part of a team.
